January Update: Construction and Plans

TinyGenerals is currently under heavy construction—basically every area needs work. I’ve made a playable game, but the experience is far from polished. This won’t change drastically in January or February as I still need to develop many planned features, but the pieces will start fitting into place.

What I’d like to complete in January

  • New home page/landing page The current page isn’t very inviting and doesn’t explain what this game is about or why it’s worth playing. With recent developments, I feel ready to set up the main page properly. I’ll likely make further adjustments to the page structure as well.

  • Single sign-on with Discord and Google accounts Currently only email and password sign-in works, but that’s about to change.

  • Improved battle setup Setting up battles is far from optimal. It requires too many clicks, and on smaller screens you might miss key steps. The game lacks something like Instant battle.

  • Improved map editor This and the list of rooms page will complete my month-long migration to shadcn components. One of the points very high on my priority list is new map generator which could also help with Instant battles I mentioned above.

  • More graphics Even if work-in-progress or placeholder I plan to work more on the visual - maybe even audiovisual - layer of the game. I already have first graphics for new terrain types: snow, desert, swamp. I hope to work on a general design system.

Future plans

I haven’t fully decided yet. February will likely bring further improvements to the AI engine, more polish to the flows, and one or two of the following: mobile app, desktop app, or browser plugin.

At the moment I predict that I will be able to build up the game until April with the current pace. April for me is a milestone to decide if there’s point in investing more time in this game or am I not able to promote it and convince players that it’s a good game.
