There are more people joining: welcome! I am very happy that you found this game. Remember that you can join TG’s Discord and discuss with me directly what works and what doesn’t work for TG!
TinyGenerals has grown significantly over the past couple of weeks. There’s a completely new project based on TinyGenerals dedicated for mobile, currently codenamed Hexacrawl. I built it on top of upcoming functionality for the core game: scenarios, where one of the scenarios is survival over waves of opponents. A version of this game is already in the Google Play Store, waiting for me to finish setting up the account. Apple App Store will come later.
The game is meant to be easy to start and difficult to master, and everything I’m building is in service of that vision.
February Scorecard
Let’s see how our February plans landed:
-
🟡 Improved map editor
We rebuilt a significant portion of it with new UI and new capabilities. Dimension changes can now be done in real time. Work continues in March.

-
🟢 New homepage
There’s always a thing or two that could be done better, and we stripped some capabilities that were supposed to appear on the main page, but it does a much better job than the earlier landing page. Mobile performance improved significantly too.
-
🟡 More graphics
The game has bigger tiles and the temporary units were finally replaced with real graphics. There’s much more already made for the game that hasn’t been made available yet. I was hoping to at least add more unit types and roads.
-
🟢 Chat and notifications
Done. There’s more work to be done but in-game chat, messages, notifications, and emails are all centralised and extensible. We can and will build on that.

-
🔴 Revisiting emails, player profiles, and promoting the game
I was planning to do more work here but didn’t get to it. The upside: TinyGenerals is now on IndieDB.
On top of all that, there were changes to the login and registration pages, AI got smarter and more aggressive, units were rebalanced, and I introduced roads as overlays. The AI rewrite alone took multiple days. As always, you can read all the bigger updates in the release notes.
Plans for March
I plan to get back to the core-game features. While the changes in February were critical, they were mostly behind the scenes. By end of March we want to have done:
- Rebuilt game setup and creation, especially on mobile
- Roads and rivers
- Terrain bonuses
- New units
